How did you get involved in roller derby?
My best friend from high school had been trying to convince me to play for years. I saw a bout at the SOS club in Modesto where she skated for SINtral Valley as a borrowed skater and I had a blast watching the game. I decided I wanted to learn too, so I contacted the team and joined the freshie group in May 2015.
How did you choose your derby name & number?
Biology has been one of my biggest passions since I was a kid, I love science and majored in Microbiology in college. Combine that with my love of pin-up art and my explosive personality and you have Bio Bombshell!
Pre-Derby Sports Background: I never played sports other than volleyball in middle school though I picked up yoga after the birth of my first child and have always enjoyed roller skating and roller blading.
Off Skates Workouts: Yoga, chasing my busy 4 year old, plus online video workouts by Flat Mat Roller Derby, and Roller Derby Athletics.
Best Fresh Meat Moment: My first scrimmage I was able to skate with all of my favorite derby heroes, coaches, and teammates and I had a blast! I got to jam, got lead jammer, scored a point, fell on my face, didn’t die, and I was hooked. It was amazing and convinced me I needed to keep digging in, and to keep working with my coaches and teammates to be ready for my first game a few months later.
Favorite Derby Moment: Seeing the smiling faces of my amazing family and friends in the stands at my first game, cheering on me and my team and having a wonderful time. I’m blessed with some super awesome people in my life and it means so much to me that they support me in my derby journey.
